By virtue of its four active ingredients, Animax Ointment provides four basic therapeutic effects: anti-inflammatory, antipruritic, antifungal and antibacterial used in the treatment of skin disorders characterized by inflammation and dry or exudative dermatitis caused by bacterial or candidal infections. It is also used in the treatment of eczema, seborrhea, and contact dermatitis. Animax requires a prescription from your veterinarian, and is available as an ointment.
Cats and Dogs
Do not use in pregnant and lactating pets. Do not use Animax if the pet is allergic to any of the individual ingredients. There are possible side effects and adverse interactions with other drugs. Be sure to tell your veterinarian what other medications your pet is currently using. Do not use in the eyes. Keep out of reach of children. If swallowed, get medical help or contact a Poison Control Center right away. Animax Ointment is not generally recommended for the treatment of deep or puncture wounds or serious burns. Before instilling any medication into the ear, examine the external ear canal thoroughly to be certain the tympanic membrane is not ruptured in order to avoid the possibility of transmitting infection to the middle ear. If hearing loss is noted during the course of treatment, discontinue the use of Animax Ointment.

Apply the missed dose as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for the next regularly scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and apply the next one as directed. Do not give a double dose of the medication.
Side effects associated with Animax are related to its individual ingredients. SAP and SGPT (ALT) enzyme elevations, polydipsia and polyuria, vomiting, and diarrhea (occasionally bloody) have been observed following parenteral or systemic use of synthetic corticosteroids. Cushing’s syndrome has been reported in association with prolonged or repeated steroid therapy in dogs. Temporary hearing loss has been reported when used for treatment of otitis with products containing corticosteroids. Hearing loss, with varying degrees of recovery, has been reported with the use of Animax Ointment. If hearing dysfunction is noted during the course of treatment with Animax Ointment, discontinue its use. Discontinue use and contact your veterinarian if sensitivity to neomycin, which may cause redness, irritation, and swelling occurs.
Store Animax at room temperature, away from moisture and heat
Use this medication as directed by your veterinarian. Frequency of administration is dependent on the severity of the condition. For mild inflammations, application may range from once daily to once a week; for severe conditions Animax Ointment may be applied as often as two to three times daily, if necessary. Frequency of treatment may be decreased as improvement occurs.
Wear gloves during the administration of the ointment or wash hands immediately after application. Prior to use, the affected area should be cleaned. Animax is for topical use on the skin. Do not use in the eyes.
