Ketoconazole is an antifungal drug effective against fungus of the lymph nodes, skin, nails, respiratory system, bone, and other parts of your pet’s body. It is also used to treat Cushing's disease. Ketoconazole, available as 200mg scored tablets (sold per tablet), requires a prescription from your veterinarian.
Other forms of this drug- Itraconazole and Fluconazole- have been produced to improve upon the number of side effects and effectiveness for certain types of infections. Some fungi have shown resistance to Ketoconazole, such as Candida albicans.
Cats and Dogs
Do not give Ketoconazole to pregnant pets. Talk to your veterinarian, if your pet is taking any other medication. Use caution when administering the drug to pets with liver disease.

Give the dose as soon as possible. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose, and continue with the regular schedule. Do not give your pet two doses at once.
Talk to your veterinarian about any side effect that seems troublesome to your pet.
Store this product at room temperature away from heat and moisture. Keep this medication out of reach of children and pets.
Give ketoconazole as directed by your veterinarian. Give ketoconazole with food which may assist with absorption and reduce stomach upset. Do not give ketoconazole within 2 hours of an antacid. Have plenty of drinking water available for the pet. Even if your pet feels better, the entire prescription and treatment plan should be completed to prevent relapse or prevent the development of resistance unless until notified by your veterinarian.
