What is Advantage Multi?

Advantage Multi for is a once a month topical application that contains a combination of the insecticide (imidacloprid) and the parasiticide (moxidectin). Advantage Multi for Dogs is used for the prevention of heartworm and the treatment and control of flea infestations, hookworms, roundworms and whipworms. Advantage Multi requires a prescription from your veterinarian.

For use in puppies (ages 7 weeks and up; 3 pounds and up) and dogs.

How it Works:

The active ingredient moxidectin is used for the prevention and control of heartworms and intestinal worms by disrupting nerve transmission resulting in the paralysis and death of the parasite. The active ingredient imidacloprid, acts on the nervous system of the flea to cause paralysis and subsequent death.

Cautions:

Individual sensitivities, while rare, may occur after using any pesticide product for pets. If signs persist, or become severe, consult a veterinarian immediately. Safety has not been established in breeding, pregnant, or lactating dogs.

A prescription is required. Sold in 6 or 12 month color coded boxes according to your dog's weight.

What are the side effects of Advantage Multi for Dogs?

The following side effects are possible with topical treatment in dogs:
Hair discoloration at application site, Local discomfort, Hot spots, Alopecia, Erythema (skin redness), Pruritus (itching), Swollen ears and face, Rash, Hives, Acute pulmonary edema, Labored breathing, Panting, Seizures, Muscle tremors, Ataxia (impaired coordination), Disorientation, Agitation, Restlessness, Weakness, Lethargy, Poor appetite, Salivation, Diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, and Vomiting

The following side effects are possible with accidental oral ingestion in dogs:
Poor appetite, Agitation, Disorientation, Lethargy, Ataxia (impaired coordination), Mydriasis (dilated pupils), Seizures, Muscle tremors, Vomiting, and Salivation.

The following side effects are possible with topical treatment in cats:
Neurologic signs, Agitation, Lethargy, Vomiting, Skin or application site reactions.

What special precautions are there?

Accidental ingestion by dogs can result in serious side effects, including generalized muscle tremors, panting, incoordination, dilated pupils, salivation, or depression. In dogs sensitive to avermectin, the side effects can be more serious and could include coma or death.
For 30 minutes following treatment, make sure that dogs can't lick the application sites on other treated dogs or themselves. Separate dogs from one another after treatment to minimize accidental ingestion risk.

What happens if I miss giving a dose:

Apply the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time to apply the next dose, skip the missed dose and apply the next dose as directed. Do not apply 2 doses at once.

What happens if I overdose the pet:

Seek emergency veterinary medical treatment. Symptoms of overdose may include depression, increased salivation, tremors, or incoordination.

How can I store Advantage Multi for Dogs?

Avoid excessive cold or heat. Store at temperatures between 4°C (39°F) and 25°C (77°F).

Directions:

For the first 30 minutes after application ensure that dogs and cats cannot lick the product from the application sites. Separate treated pets from one another and from other pets to reduce the risk of accidental ingestion. Wash hands with soap and water after handling. Do not let children touch the treated pet's skin for at least 30 minutes after applying the product. Do not get these products in the pet's mouth or eyes.
